There is a voluntary recall of Boots and Barkley Bully Sticks dog treats sold at Target Stores due to possible contamination with Salmonella.

The product is sold in a clear plastic bag containing six bully sticks each and are marked with bar code number 647263899189.

The manufacturer is recalling all lot numbers because the following lot codes tested positive through analysis by the State of Colorado Department of Agriculture:

  • BESTBY01JUN2014DEN
  • BESTBY23JUN2014DEN
  • BESTBY23SEP2014DEN

South Dakota

Made it to South Dakota and spent several days visiting with Gary and Lavonne.  We had a great time.  Well, Lucy, their cat, still doesn’t like me very much but other than that everything was great!!  It is cooler here, especially at night.  I am sleeping in the front of the coach so I can have the air conditioner running while Michael and Georgia are in the bedroom with the heater on.  Isn’t that nice of me to let them do that?

Anyway, we left Spearfish this morning and traveled to Rapid City.  Only about an hour drive to a new RV Resort.  We met up with Don, Joy and Nikki.  Nikki is a Golden Retriever.  She is little (weighs about 1/2 what I do) but feisty.  She should be great fun to play with.  I am being told that we are going to travel together for a while.  This could be fun!

Traveling

Two unusual things have happened.  First, it rained in Austin.  I know that isn’t supposed to be unusual but in this drought any rain is welcome.  We have gotten over an inch of rain.  Lake Travis is still WAY down (like 45 feet down!!).  Secondly, I am traveling again.

We left Austin in the rain and headed to South Dakota.  In the past couple of days, I have been in two states I had not seen before, Oklahoma and Kansas.  Today we are on the way to Nebraska.  That will make a total of seven states I have visited.  I am told that we will be in three more new states in the next few days.

I have found that Michael and Georgia will let me lay on the couch in the motorhome.  I like that.  It has become one of my favorite places.  They put a big towel on it but I frequently pull it off.

Playing with Toby

Toby came over this evening to play.  That was SOOOOO great.  She is a little Boxer with a lot of spunk.  She can face fight with the best of them.  I wore myself out!!

With all the great times I have been having, I almost forgot about something VERY important.  There has been a dog food recall for the 26 pound bags of AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula with Best Before Codes of August 28,2013, August 29, 2013 or August 30, 2013.  There is a potential for Salmonella so DON’T eat it!!  (I know your feeder will have to be sure you don’t get it in your bowl because we all know that we will eat ANYTHING!!)  As usual, check with DogFoodAdvisor.com for the latest information.

Speaking of eating anything, when Toby left tonight, Michael was eating tacos.  When he came back in the house he let me go first so I got to the tacos first.  I was able to get some of it down before it got taken away from me.  Hey, what do you expect, it was just sitting there on the table waiting to be eaten.  I knew someone had to eat it so it might as well be me!!

Oh, I weight 120 pounds now.  Are you surprised?  Don’t be, I am a growing young man.

Still Summer in Texas

Back to summer!  After a few days with a high less than 100, we are back to the triple digits everyday again.  I am ready for cooler weather so I can spend more time outside.  I go for a couple of long walks each day but other than that, I spend most of my time in the house where it is 75 degrees.  Michael says I am freezing him to death trying to keep the house cool enough for me but I think Georgia likes it cool also.

We went to PetsMart a couple of days ago and I am still playing with most of the toys we got.  I say most because I have already destroyed one of them.  Hey, what can I say?  I’m a growing boy with a need to chew!  Unfortunately, just as I am getting these toys the way I like them, they take them away and toss them in the trash.  Just because I am pulling the stuffing out and eating it, or ripping the cover off of a big tennis ball is no reason to get rid of it.  I have my best fun when I can eat my toys.  They got me a heavy rope pull toy.  I am slowly chewing through it and ripping the threads out of it.   I do like the big toys with squeakers in them.  Michael and Georgia are always concerned I will eat the squeaker out of them but so far I haven’t (that silly little toy with multiple squeakers that I swallowed whole in Arizona doesn’t count).

I am up to 117 pounds now.  I am a little over 31 weeks old (7.3 months for those who relate to a month basis).

New Photos

I got Michael to add a couple of new photos (see My Photos, 21-40 weeks).  It is still hot and humid outside but I do enjoy going for walks and playing with my new blue ball.  I am up to 114 pounds and still enjoying eating Victor Dog Food (still eating about 9 cups a day).  Today I was 31 weeks old or just over 7 months.

New Toy and More Fun

Today Georgia brought home a new toy.  It is a big blue ball with a handle on it.  I like to play with it.  At first Michael and Georgia would throw it and I would grab it by the handle and run with it.  Now I have learned that if I open my mouth REALLY wide, I can grab it and run around shaking it.  Now that is fun!!  They giggled because the toy was made for horses to play with.  Oh well, it seems to be a pretty good fit for me.

Today I weighed in at 113.  Not much gain but every little bit helps me grow big and strong.  Speaking of growing and eating, they brought in 80 pounds of Victor dog food for me.  That will hold me a few weeks anyway.  Actually, I’m not a big eater.  I only eat about 9 cups of food a day which is about the same amount I have been eating for months now.  They also got me a box of peanut butter cookies from Three Dog Bakery!!  Man are those yummy.  You know how much I love peanut butter!!

Did you remember that yesterday was my 7 month birthday?  If not, why not?  You should always keep important things in the forefront of your mind.

I’m 30 Weeks Old

Things have been improving in my life.  I have been face fighting with the water hose.  Don’t you just love to drink out of a water hose?  Well take that to a new height!  Michael sets the nozzle on shower and I get to fight with the water stream!!  Then I get to play ‘chase the water stream’.  Michael turns the nozzle on stream and shots water into the air and I chase it.  Sort of like a cat chasing a laser except I get to catch the water.  I love it.  Of course it gets me very wet and then Michael has to dry me off with a towel (which I don’t like).

At just under 7 months, I still weigh 112 pounds but I am up to 32″ at the shoulder.  Still hot so I still don’t want to be outside very long.

A Mature 6 Month Old

Yes, I am getting bigger and I am calming down a little.  I have completed a major change in my life.  I decided I didn’t like sleeping in the bedroom with Michael and Georgia in my ‘little’ kennel.  Since I have been staying in Georgia’s study and prefer to go there at night, Michael took down my kennel in the master bedroom.  I like it better sleeping in the study.  That way Georgia doesn’t keep me up at night (he-he).

Now the news that Michael is always so interested in.  At 6.5 months (or 29 weeks for you who prefer to think that way) I weight (wait for it) 109 pounds and stand 31″ tall.  Yes, I am getting bigger.  I am calming down some as I mature.  I have really developed a taste for bully sticks.  Michael is getting me the odor free bully sticks from www.allnaturalbullysticks.com.  They are made in the U.S. from American cattle.  I like that, I am an All-American dog (except the part that is Irish).

Life’s Good

Life is good: hot, but good.  I have been walking everyday, getting lots of good food to eat and spending time with Michael and Georgia.  They say that I am not chewing as badly as I use to.  I do still enjoy that opportunity to chew things that I am not supposed to (I am really fond of paper towels and pot holders).  Speaking of chewing, don’t you love to eat bugs!!  I do.  If I find a bug, it do my best to hunt it down and eat it.  You may think that is nasty but I look at it as a challenge, a diversion, a quest!  Everyone has to have a job to do and I think I have found my purpose in life.  I am a bug eater.

Milestones

Since I last updated you, I have 1) turned 6 months of age and 2) past the century mark (I now weigh 102 pounds as of this afternoon).

No one has been visiting so my supply of new people to play with me has dwindled out.  Of course Stephen, who takes care of my lawn, plays with me, Michael and Georgia play with me and Alex is still coming over almost everyday and taking me for a walk.  But it is nice to have new people available to play with.

It is hot so I don’t like going outside for very long after about 9 AM.

Checking In

Well, July is almost past.  It has been a hot, but not abnormally hot, summer so far.  Looks like this week will be over 100 almost every day.  So far we have only had 2 days in July that hit 100 or above.  That’s good when you are wearing a fur coat all the time.   We had 5 days in June that it was 100  or more.  That makes it tough to take long walks.  Too hot.  Tongue hangs out, want to go back in the air conditioning.  I have enjoyed having Deb here to spend extra time playing with me.  I like being rubbed but I really love a good trash can so I can shred all the paper in it.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to shred paper all over the room, you haven’t had fun!!  I keep telling Michael he needs to get some updated photos of me so you can see that I have grown but he doesn’t like the ones he has taken.  I will keep after him until he does it!!  In the meantime, pray for cool/cold weather.

Growing

Well, I haven’t gained any weight (I know, my bad that I am only 98 pounds) but I am getting taller.  I am now 30-1/2 inches at the shoulder.  Yep, I am almost a big dog and I’m not quite 6 months old.  Speaking of 6 months, that occurs TOMORROW!!

Deborah just took me for a walk.  I like walks but man is it hot and humid!

Weight Gain

I have been eating about the same amount of food as always (7-9 cups per day) but during the past week I have gained some weight. As of yesterday, I weighed 98 pounds. I am holding steady at 29″ at the shoulders, so I haven’t gotten any taller.

I have been trying to be better about chewing on things that upset Michael and Georgia (like furniture) so they are letting me spend more time in the Family Room with them watching TV in the evenings.  That is good since I like being with them. I just have memory lapses from time to time and my mouth ends up around something it shouldn’t. Oops!!

I hear rumors that we are going to have a guest in the house for a few days.  Oh Boy, someone else to play with me!!

Watching TV

Michael and Georgia have been letting me spend time in the family room with them while they watch TV.  I personally don’t get it.  Why you would want to set perfectly still (there is nothing perfect about being still) and watch a picture on the wall, I do not know.  They give me a toy to play with and I have been trying to indulge them by laying down beside Michael and chewing on my toy.  Sometimes I get bored and start investigating the room but that usually results in me getting taken back to Georgia’s study where I have a couple of X-Pens setup to keep me “out of trouble”.  It has stopped raining so life outside has returned to normal.

As of today, I weigh 92 pounds.

More Rain, Still Bored

The rain continues in Austin.  Unfortunately, most of the rainfall is occurring below Mansfield Dam so Lake Travis isn’t benefiting as much as I would like.  Lake Travis is still 41 feet down.  It rains enough to get my yard wet and muddy.  That’s good for me, not so good for Georgia who gets to clean me up before I come in.

I am still growing.  I am up to 90 pounds now.

Rain and I’m Bored

It is raining!!  Can you believe that?  We had 2.75″ of rain yesterday and have had over 1.5″ of rain so far today.  That is hard on a very active young wolfhound.  I have been getting into a lot of trouble in the house so everyone will be glad when I can go outside and run.  I was able to get about 2 minutes of running in with Michael during a break in the rain but that was not nearly enough.  Everything is getting very wet with most of the rain coming during the past 28 hours.

Georgia was nice to me and left me in the kitchen with a Bully Stick.  Unfortunately, Michael noticed I was scratching the kitchen cabinets while chewing on my treat so I got tossed outside.  Please Brer Fox, don’t throw me into that briar patch!!!  🙂  (Yes, I had to get in some literary sarcasm.)  That was the most fun I have had all day.  Boy did I get wet and muddy.

Still Hot

I have been inside most of the time since it is summer in Texas. You do remember that I don’t like hot weather don’t you?  That has not stopped me from growing. I weigh 88 pounds and am 29″ at the shoulder at just under 5-1/2 months of age.

Heather left so I don’t get to play with her. I like people coming to the house to play with me. Especially when they are here for several days. I will miss her.

Growning and Chewing

Today I weighed 87 pounds and was 28″ at the shoulder.  In case you forgot, I am now just over 5 months old.

I have been evicted from the kitchen much of the time now since 1) I found I can get things off the counter (yummy) and 2) I started chewing on the shelves and cabinets.  I now eat and drink in the kitchen but am typically vanquished to Georgia’s study most of the time.  That’s not too bad since she is in there a lot but I do miss the cool tile floor in the kitchen.  You wouldn’t think that chewing on things would get you in so much trouble would you? I will tell you that Michael was NOT amused when he saw the cabinets.

We are going out for lot’s of walks these days.  I like early morning best because it is cooler.  I also play in the yard when it isn’t too hot.
